Why do so many restaurants put omelette's on the menu as an English dish when it clearly is?

have nothing better to do i checked the history of the humble omelette and its history stems back to the near east and has far reaching relatives in north Africa but not in dear old blighty. so why do so many restaurants put these in with the English dishes on their menu's and when the put Spanish omelette i really have to raise an eye brow.
