Did my laptop computer transformer get damaged from major arcing after being plugged in?

I hadn't yet attached the cord to my computer, but I plugged it into the wall and a huge flash of light with a loud sparking sound happened. I let go it and it fell out since I hadn't pushed it in very far. One prong got a tiny bit melted/scarred and there was lots of soot over the whole end. My dad tested the voltage, current, that kind of thing and he said he couldn't tell if there was a problem with the transformer. But now I'm scared to plug in my computer. Should I just buy a new transformer and power cord?
